Connectivity, Diversity, Criticality 

Visual Arts South West (formerly Turning Point South West) is part of the Contemporary Visual Arts National Network (formerly Turning Point Network) initiated by the Arts Council of England. Contemporary Visual Arts Network is a national consortium of artists, arts professionals and arts organisations in England dedicated to working together to find new ways to strengthen the visual arts, and to support the arts more broadly. The purpose of the network is to connect people working in the visual arts with each other, and with professionals in other fields around the world, in order to share information, ideas and resources. We are dedicated to working together to realise a stronger visual arts for the benefit of artists, arts organisations and audiences, present and future. 

The overarching aim of VASW is:

To raise the level of critical dialogue and engagement across the region in order to support a dynamic and sustainable visual arts sector, especially within the current economic climate

Objectives:

1. Supporting and developing excellence in artists and arts organisations

2. Empowering the sector with greater skills and knowledge

3. Providing greater opportunities for networking, partnership working and collaborative projects, including engagement with wider networks nationally and internationally

4. Developing better understanding of audiences and extending reach

5. Improving economic stability

6. To provide leadership and advocacy

Steering Group and Coordination

The Visual Arts South West steering group is comprised of 3 groups representing the following sectors:

1. New Portfolio Organisations (NPO's) – Arnolfini (Bristol), Newlyn Art Gallery and The Exchange (Cornwall), Plymouth Arts Centre (Devon), Spike Island (Bristol) and Stroud Valleys Artspace (Gloucestershire)

2. Independent artists - Peter Stiles (Devon), Jacy Wall (Somerset), Amanda Wallwork (Dorset), Steven Paige (Cornwall)

3. Non-NPOs/independent organisations - Big Picture (Dorset), Reveal (Somerset), Plymouth Museum & Art Gallery (Devon), Arts Bournemouth (Dorset), Maggie Bolt Associates (Devon)

The representation sets out to reflect the geographic spread and diversity of practice within the region.
